New book: PRP in Musculoskeletal Pathology

Jan 2, 2017 | News, Ortho

The book coordinated by B. Dallaudière and A. Silvestre on “Platelet rich plasma in musculoskeletal pathology” is an important pillar for the building of the future of Regenerative Medicine and Surgery.

The team at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine for the Muskuloskeletal system from the Osteoarticular Image Center from the Clinic of Sport in Bordeaux-Merignac was one of the pioneers in France in the therapeutic use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Nowadays they are experts in the treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies with PRP: more than 6,000 procedures with systematic platelets quantification for each patient, since 2010.

This book takes stock of the state of PRP treatments in musculoskeletal pathologies, on one hand, from a global study of scientific literature and, on the other hand, through the experience of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

Thanks to the multidisciplinary collaboration between researchers, biologists, sports physicians, interventional radiologists and surgeons, the authors discuss the pathophysiology of major musculoskeletal injuries, mechanisms of action of PRP, its possibilities and limitations and offer therapeutic protocols tested in their daily experience.

In a final chapter, the authors discuss the future of Regenerative Medicine, represented by making mixtures such as: platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stromal vascular fraction (SVF) of subcutaneous adipose tissues, rich in pluripotent mesenchymal cells, whose potential regeneration of tissues (tendons or cartilage) has been scientifically proven in recent years.
